Ajou University and Suwon Museum of History held the opening ceremony of "Suwon City Museum Metaverse" at Yulgok Hall. The project, initiated under a cooperation agreement signed in April of last year for software-culture/arts convergence, implemented immersive metaverse museums for three Suwon special city museums: Suwon Museum of History, Suwon Hwaseong Museum, and Suwon Gwangyo Museum — shot in 360-degree coverage. Over 3 semesters from 2023 to this spring's first semester, 106 students participated through Professor Oh Gyu-hwan's "Metaverse Programming" and "Metaverse Content Planning" courses at Ajou University's Department of Digital Media. Students digitized exhibits and designed interactive content for immersive virtual space experiences, refined through feedback from digital media experts and curators. Scale: Suwon Museum (662 artifacts, 7,118㎡), Hwaseong Museum (375 artifacts, 5,635㎡), Gwangyo Museum (476 artifacts, 4,086㎡). Dean Kang Kyeong-ran: "Metaverse technology opened new possibilities for museums to transcend temporal and spatial limitations — fusion of local cultural heritage and cutting-edge technology will provide more people with cultural experience opportunities." Director Kim Jae-seop: "Anyone can now enjoy Suwon City museum exhibitions in virtual space from anywhere, anytime."
