On October 25, 2023, Mokpo City and Smart Human Resources Development Institute held the opening ceremony of the "AI Metaverse Center" at the Cheongho Hall of the former Mokpo Cheongho Middle School. According to Mokpo City, approximately 100 people attended the opening ceremony including Mayor Park Hong-ryul, Jeon Gyeong-seon Vice Chairman of Jeonnam Provincial Council, Kim Gwi-seon Mokpo City Council Vice Chairman, Gang Hyeon-cheol Korea Human Resources Development Service Capability Development Director, and Choi Se-ung Mokpo National University Student Employment Office Director. The AI Metaverse Center is a space providing customized digital convergence training courses for local students, youth, and the unemployed. The center features a chroma key zone, AR/VR experience zone, community space, and equipment for AI and metaverse content creation training. The center reflects the national strategy of distributing AI education infrastructure to regional cities rather than concentrating it in Seoul -- Mokpo (South Jeolla Province) as a medium-sized regional city with significant youth unemployment benefits from having accessible AI/metaverse training that can create local digital economy employment opportunities.
