Samsung Electronics announced at the board meeting held immediately after the 56th Regular General Shareholders Meeting on March 19 that outside director Shin Je-yoon was elected as new board chairman. Chairman Shin becomes the third outside director-origin chairman of the Samsung Electronics board, following Park Jae-wan in 2020 and Kim Han-jo in 2022. Samsung Electronics has been appointing outside director-origin chairmen since 2020, following the separation of board chairman and representative director positions in 2018. With the appointment of Shin Je-yoon as board chairman again, it is expected that board independence and management transparency will be further strengthened. Chairman Shin Je-yoon: former Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (Korea financial regulatory authority); former President of Korea Development Bank; extensive experience in global financial markets; brings financial expertise and regulatory perspective to the Samsung Electronics board. Simultaneously, the shareholders meeting formally approved Chun Young-hyun (DS Division Head, Vice Chairman) as co-Representative Director alongside Han Jong-hee (DX Division Head, Vice Chairman) -- formalizing the dual-CEO structure that has been operating since the Jay Y. Lee management restructuring.
