KOTRA (President Kang Gyeong-seong) and Korea Technology Finance Corporation (President Kim Jong-ho) are joining hands to support K-startups global unicorn growth. The two organizations will sign an MOU for the "Baby Unicorn Overseas Expansion Support Project" on the 20th. The "Baby Unicorn Overseas Expansion Support Project" is a project where KOTRA provides customized support through 16 startup hub trade centers for Baby Unicorn companies selected by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo) and Korea Technology Finance Corporation to enter overseas markets. Following support for 20 companies last year, this year it is expanded to up to 40 companies including opportunities to participate in overseas exhibitions. Currently recruiting participating companies for the 6-month support program on KOTRA website (www.kotra.or.kr). The Baby Unicorn program context: Korea Ministry of SMEs and Startups annually selects promising startups as "Baby Unicorns" (pre-unicorn stage, valued 10M-1B USD) with potential to reach unicorn status (1B+ USD valuation); the program provides funding, mentorship, and now overseas expansion support; the KOTRA partnership adds the international trade infrastructure that purely domestic startup support programs lack; connecting baby unicorns with KOTRA overseas offices in 130 countries gives startups market intelligence and local introductions that would otherwise take years to develop independently.
