Samsung Electronics co-hosted the "XR Unlocked" developer event at Google Campus, New York on December 12 (local time) with Google and Qualcomm, introducing the "Android XR" platform and "Project Moohan," the first device to feature it. XR (eXtended Reality) is expected to significantly transform daily life across work, learning, entertainment, gaming, and health management by transcending physical limitations. Android XR, jointly developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm through open collaboration, supports user interaction with external and virtual reality through multimodal AI — featuring Google Gemini for natural conversational information exploration and context-aware personalized AI agent responses. The platform strengthens extensibility through open collaboration with existing Android, OpenXR, VR, and mobile AR communities, enabling diverse third-party apps and services. "Project Moohan" — the first Android XR headset, launching in 2025 — embodies the meaning "infinite" (無限), promising immersive experiences transcending physical limitations. Samsung MX Division EVP Choi Won-jun: "XR will open a completely new dimension — the combination of cutting-edge XR technology and multimodal AI that understands usage context has created perfect conditions for new form factor innovation." Samsung Immersive Solution Development Team EVP Kim Ki-hwan outlined three core platform values: immersive visual experience, natural interaction using audiovisual and movement, and open collaboration with existing XR/VR/mobile AR communities.
