AI research company Anthropic officially announced a $50 billion (approximately 67 trillion KRW) US domestic mega-data center project, with partner Fluidstack headquartered in New York and the first construction sites confirmed as New York and Texas. This project is not only unprecedented scale in US AI infrastructure history but signals the full-scale start of what can be called "physical AI war" — the race for power, servers, cooling, and space that will determine next-generation AI model development competition.
Fluidstack describes the contract: "A project building data centers completely optimized for Anthropic, targeting maximum AI workload efficiency." The "custom-built" here is not simple hardware assembly level — it includes multi-gigawatt power transmission, cooling infrastructure optimized for large GPU/server rack structures, expandable modular cluster design, and long-term infrastructure architecture considering model scale increases over the next 10-20 years. This is effectively the level of "a single company's dedicated national AI infrastructure."
The project creates approximately 800 permanent positions (average salary $144,000) and 2,400 local construction jobs. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated: "Building more powerful AI requires unprecedented levels of computing infrastructure." This captures the current essence of the AI industry: the problem is no longer algorithms. Model size and parameter growth rates are growing faster than power supply rates and data center groundbreaking speeds. Securing power has become the actual battleground of AI hegemony — a 1GW data center uses similar power to a small city, and Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta are all planning AI farms in the 10GW unit range.
Fluidstack CEO Gary Wu stated: "Fluidstack is the company designed for exactly this moment" — a special firm optimized for rapidly building ultra-large GPU farms and HPC farms, with rare capability to quickly handle land acquisition, power line expansion, local regulatory approval, cooling system design, and integrated construction-installation-operation in the US. Anthropic needed "an infrastructure partner that can scale quickly and massively," and Fluidstack became that answer. The Trump administration is likely to use this investment as a "US AI leadership maintenance project" — fixing the supply chain for AI manufacturing, training, and inference on American soil.
