Sign Joint Business MOU for Yeongju Dam Livestock Manure Solid Fuel Project

Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) along with the Ministry of Environment, Yeongju City, Korea Southern Power, and Yeongju Livestock Agricultural Cooperative signed the "Yeongju Dam Livestock Manure Solid Fuel Joint Project MOU" at Yeongju City Buseok-myeon Livestock Business Office in North Gyeongsang Province on March 12. The livestock manure solid fuel project is a business producing livestock manure from livestock farms as eco-friendly solid fuel capable of generating heat using high-speed fermenters rather than fertilizing it, and utilizing it as an energy source. Yeongju Dam has livestock manure as the highest proportion of incoming pollutants -- during rainfall, more than half of the incoming pollutants come from livestock. By converting livestock manure into solid fuel, this project simultaneously addresses: water quality improvement for Yeongju Dam (reducing pollutant loading); renewable energy generation (solid biomass fuel replacing coal); circular economy demonstration (waste-to-energy from agricultural sector). The partnership structure reflects that the problem (dam water quality) and solution (energy conversion) require coordination across environmental regulation (Ministry of Environment), water management (K-water), energy production (Korea Southern Power), and agricultural sector participation (Livestock Cooperative) -- a genuine multi-stakeholder sustainability project.
