South Chungcheong Province announced on the 26th that it is introducing digital convergence technology utilizing optical sensors for the first time in the country to create a safe festival venue. The field verification of the living safety solution from the "AI and Metaverse-Based Disaster Safety Management System Strengthening Project" being promoted with the South Chungnam Research Institute Science and Technology Promotion Division will be conducted at the 70th Baekje Cultural Festival held in the Gongju Geumgang Shingwan Park area from the 28th to October 6. This project uses technologies including AI and metaverse to solve safety problems in road and living fields, with a total project cost of 11.6 billion KRW invested. Optical sensor safety technology: fiber optic pressure sensors can detect crowd density by measuring weight distribution across a festival area; the data feeds into an AI system that predicts crowd crush risk and alerts organizers to redistribute crowd flow before dangerous densities develop; the metaverse component creates a digital twin of the festival venue where simulation of crowd flow scenarios enables better event planning and emergency response rehearsal; the Baekje Cultural Festival field test follows the 2022 Itaewon Halloween crowd crush tragedy which created strong government urgency for crowd safety technology solutions.
