LG Electronics (CEO Cho Joo-wan) will present the first OLED gaming monitors supporting 5K2K (5,120X2,160) resolution beyond the existing 4K at CES 2025. LG Electronics has received high praise for differentiated gaming performance since launching the gaming device brand "UltraGear" in 2018 -- it has been used as the official monitor at the world largest gaming competition "eSports World Cup" and the Korean and European League of Legends leagues. The 45-inch UltraGear monitors unveiled at CES 2025 (models: 45GX990A/950A) are the first OLED gaming monitors supporting 5K2K resolution (5,120X2,160) beyond 4K. With a 21:9 aspect ratio suitable for the latest games, they provide an immersive gaming experience. Display brightness is also at the highest level among OLED monitors at maximum 1,300 nits. The 5K2K 21:9 significance for gaming: the ultra-wide aspect ratio (21:9 vs standard 16:9) provides more peripheral vision in games, giving competitive players a significant advantage in games like first-person shooters and racing games; the 5K2K resolution at this aspect ratio delivers more pixels per inch than 4K at 16:9, producing sharper text and finer detail; the 1,300 nit peak brightness addresses the HDR game tone mapping that previous OLED monitors struggled with -- high brightness enables both deep blacks (OLED strength) and bright highlights (traditionally OLED weakness) simultaneously.
