Declaration of Transition to Proactive AI Assistant

OpenAI unveiled new feature "ChatGPT Pulse," declaring a transition from chatbot to proactive AI assistant. Pulse is a service that researches and organizes customized information while users sleep, providing a briefing each morning. An era is opening where AI starts conversations first and proposes daily directions without users posing questions.

Pulse provides 5-10 card-format reports once daily. Cards include news summaries of interest, information reflecting personal schedules and preferences, follow-up updates on frequently discussed topics, cooking ideas for that evening, or the next step in marathon training toward long-term goals. Google Calendar integration can draft meeting agendas or send birthday reminders; Gmail integration automatically selects important emails for morning notification.

OpenAI introduced a "pause structure" to differentiate Pulse from simple news summary apps — showing a certain amount of information then concluding with "that''s it for today." Unlike infinite-scroll social media, the philosophy is to provide only needed information and help users immediately return to daily life. Currently available only to $200/month Pro subscribers, with planned expansion to Plus and general users (subject to data center expansion in cooperation with Oracle/SoftBank).

User customization is another core: users can directly request "tell me local event news tomorrow" or "focus on tennis news," and thumb button feedback on cards makes the next day''s briefing increasingly refined. OpenAI envisions Pulse evolving into "Agentic AI" that restaurant reservations or drafts emails under user approval — from the existing "question-answer paradigm" to a "delegation-execution paradigm." Pulse''s success depends on information precision, reliability, and how much large-scale computing resources are secured. Most fundamentally, Pulse raises the question of "how far can AI intervene in our lives," announcing AI has entered a new stage of reshaping our daily lives.
