I Am No Longer a Student of Sogang University Metaverse Graduate School -- When Darkness Is Present Dawn Comes, and Morning Comes, and Then Darkness Returns Again: The title has a reason. The name of Sogang University Metaverse Graduate School changed to Virtual Convergence Graduate School. When I tell people around me that I attend the Metaverse Graduate School, nine out of ten respond: Metaverse? That is so over now, why do you attend there? But whenever I hear those words, I feel sad instead. What is important is not the name. The author reflects on why the metaverse as a field of study remains meaningful despite the hype cycle decline: the technologies underlying metaverse (XR, spatial computing, virtual worlds, digital identity) are continuing to develop and find important applications; the hype decline was healthy -- it cleared out speculative projects and left behind serious technology and application development; the graduate school name change to Virtual Convergence Graduate School actually reflects more accurately what the field has become -- the convergence of virtual and physical realities through technology; students who invested in this education during the hype period and stayed through the correction will emerge with expertise in technologies that are becoming genuinely important for the next phase of digital infrastructure.
