LG Electronics is expanding global environmental protection activities as part of its strengthened ESG management. On the 18th (local time), LG Electronics unveiled the fifth video in "The LG Endangered Species Series" — the Monarch Butterfly edition — on the Times Square billboard in New York. The campaign highlights endangered animals threatened by climate change and environmental destruction to raise awareness of ecosystem protection.
The Monarch Butterfly, which migrates long distances from southern Canada to Mexico, faces extinction as habitats shrink and populations plummet due to global warming. LG Electronics used 3D technology to realistically render Monarch Butterflies on the Times Square billboard, warning of environmental destruction's severity. LG Electronics has previously screened endangered species videos including snow leopards (April 2023), bald eagles (July), sea lions (September), and red wolves (December).
LG Electronics is participating as an official partner in NBC's natural documentary "The Americas" — the largest production in natural documentary history focusing on endangered animals in North and South America, narrated by Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks with music by Hans Zimmer. LG Electronics plans to create 3D videos of various endangered animals featured in the documentary for sequential Times Square broadcast. The "Wonderbox" competition co-hosted with NBC invites digital art reimagining of endangered species, with winners receiving up to $25,000 in scholarships and Times Square broadcast opportunities. In July 2023, LG Electronics partnered with the New York Yankees, connecting donations at Yankee Stadium to the National Wildlife Federation's tree planting projects.
