Korea''s Manufacturing Paradigm Is Simultaneously Being Overturned

Between 2024-2030, Korea's three largest conglomerates have announced domestic investments totaling over 700 trillion KRW: Samsung 450 trillion, Hyundai Motor 125 trillion, SK 128 trillion. This represents an unprecedented scale "Triple Transformation" in Korean manufacturing history — simultaneously shifting toward AI-semiconductor-battery-EV-robot-hydrogen as an ultra-convergent manufacturing nation model.

Samsung focuses on semiconductor-centered national manufacturing foundation strengthening; Hyundai Motor on future mobility hegemony acquisition; SK on AI infrastructure-semiconductor-energy fusion. Together, these companies are building Korea's growth engines around different industrial axes.

In semiconductors: Samsung (Pyeongtaek Line 5, approved for framework construction, 2028 operation target, next-gen DRAM/HBM/foundry expansion) and SK Hynix (Yongin Semiconductor Cluster projected at 600 trillion KRW for 4 fabs, Trinity Fab platform for domestic component company testing) form a two-track structure — Samsung maintaining "overwhelming gap" and SK Hynix targeting "HBM world #1."

In AI infrastructure: SK independently building three data centers (Ulsan 100MW AWS AI center, Jeonnam National AI Computing Center with 15,000 GPUs, Gumi AI data center), with OpenAI's southwest Korea center under review. Samsung specializing in "manufacturing AI" (smart fab, AI for semiconductor processes) and Hyundai Motor in "physical AI" (robotics, autonomous driving).

In batteries/EVs: Hyundai Motor executing a six-axis mega-strategy (AI, robots, hydrogen, SDV, EVs, smart factory) targeting 2.5x EV production capacity by 2030; Samsung SDI pursuing "world-leading" solid-state batteries (2027 mass production, BMW joint demonstration); SK On with LFP/NCM/solid-state three-axis strategy. Hyundai Motor has built a "complete vehicle-AI-robot-hydrogen" mobility big picture, while Samsung/SK control the backend with "next-generation batteries." The combination creates Korea's position as AI Memory Supply Nation #1 and an integrated future manufacturing strategy platform.
