Musk "End of an Era"... Symbolic Models Into History
Premium EV Reduction Signal... Strategic Shift to Efficiency and Mass Market Focus

Tesla officially ended custom orders for representative premium electric vehicles Model S and Model X -- drawing industry attention. Elon Musk stated on X (formerly Twitter): "Now only inventory vehicles remain" and "will hold an event commemorating the end of an era." Given the two models have been produced for approximately 14 years symbolizing Tesla technology and brand identity, this decision carries symbolic meaning beyond simple sales policy change. Model S (launched 2012): established concepts of long-range capable EV, high-performance electric sedan, and software update-centered vehicle -- fundamentally changed perceptions of electric vehicles. Model X: pioneered premium electric SUV market through Falcon Wing doors and various technology attempts including autonomous driving -- strengthened brand image. Market environment has already changed: Tesla sales majority comes from mass-market vehicles like Model 3 and Model Y; Model S and X have relatively low demand and revenue contribution compared to their symbolic significance. Premium models have high production costs and complex structures making economies of scale difficult; mass-market models maximize production efficiency and are advantageous from profitability perspective. Technology assessment: despite multiple improvements, Model S and X platform structures are gradually aging -- growing gap with latest battery technology and AI-based vehicle architecture. The strategic shift signal: Tesla is consolidating around Cybertruck (pickup truck market), the next-generation Model Y ("Juniper"), and potentially affordable mass-market vehicles -- the era of halo products justifying Tesla premium through aspirational positioning is giving way to an era of volume and efficiency as competition from Chinese EVs and established automakers intensifies.
